Are you ready for The Sassy Chef?


Who doesn't like a good movie, especially one about a restaurant and a sassy chefs? Oh, and did we mention, it supports a great cause.

Mark your calendars for Thursday, March 29th and come enjoy the premier of "The Sassy Chef", a special film written, produced and featuring individuals supported by the Arc in collaboration with The Art Effect. It's all a part of An Evening of Discovery:A Night on the Red Carpet, the annual signature benefit event put on by the Arc of Dutchess.

If you are unfamiliar with the Arc of Dutchess, they are a Poughkeepsie based organization, one of the region’s largest non‐profits, devoted to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. They do this in a variety of ways including clinical therapies, habilitation programs, residential support, respite for caregivers, family resources, educational assistance and advocacy, recreation and youth programs.

The Arc of Dutchess’ Evening of Discovery is a chance not only to provide the community with a unique experience it also allows The Arc's to reveal it's mission of fostering and showcasing the capacities, strengths, and talents of people with developmental disabilities. Respecting and supporting what matters to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and promoting and giving them opportunities achieve full inclusion and participation in the community is what the night is about.

The film will premiere at The Bardavon Opera House in Poughkeepsie, with red carpet entry beginning at 5:30pm. A spectacular after‐party will follow at The Poughkeepsie Grand Hotel and will be available to all ticket holders. Guest will enjoy champagne, hors d’oeuvres and music from the Dutchess Community College Jazz Combo.

At the after-party, Steve Chickery, a native Poughkeepsie resident and president of Hudson Valley Office Furniture, will be honored with the Catherine Seeberger Citizenship Award for his extensive contributions to the local community. 

“This event puts the spotlight right where it belongs: on the individuals we support, and our staff who provide people with the critical day to day guidance and encouragement to achieve a life of meaningful and authentic experiences,” said Executive Director of The Arc of Dutchess, Crys McCuin. “By supporting this memorable event each year our community demonstrates our collective resolve to ‘ThinkDIFFERENTLY’.”

“I have been overwhelmed by our community’s willingness to ‘ThinkDIFFERENTLY’ about individuals of all abilities, and I thank service providers like The Arc of Dutchess for their efforts to help everyone of every ability find their purpose,” said Dutchess County Executive, Marcus J. Molinaro. “I applaud local business owners like Steve Chickery for setting the example for our community – giving their time and effort to foster a welcoming and supportive environment for all residents – and I look forward to more of our neighbors showing us how they ‘ThinkDIFFERENTLY’.”
