CIA Students to Hold Charity Dining Events

June 12, 2017

If your dream summer evening includes fabulous food, breathtaking views, and music under the stars, make reservations for the CIA’s Charity Dining Events.

The CIA’s senior class in Food Service Management will host three summer Charity Dining Events. The first celebration, “A Taste of Europe”, will highlight food and drink from Italy, Greece, Spain and Portugal.

The evening begins with an outdoor reception and silent auction overlooking the Hudson River. Signature cocktails as well as numerous Spanish tapas and a Spanish ham carving station will be served. Guests will move into CIA’s Farquharson Hall to enjoy a four-course meal, paired with selected wines (see bottom for complete menu).

Proceeds will benefit Hudson River Housing, dedicated to eliminating the consequences of homelessness and ensuring that decent, affordable housing is available for all people in the Hudson Valley community.

The second summer gala, “Hudson Valley Americana,” will be held on July 1. This event will be a patriotic celebration of both America and the Hudson Valley.  The final summer charity dinner will be on July 15, and the theme will be “Prohibition”, featuring several Hudson Valley spirits. The menu and entertainment for these two events will be posted on the CIA’s website two weeks prior. Over 36,000 emails are sent to family and friends of the CIA, so tickets go quickly, and the events sell out.

These culinary stars are responsible for all the evening’s planning and execution. Each class is divided into four teams, along with the student-elected general manager.  The food service team plans a four-course meal plus hors d’oeuvres for the cocktail hour.  The service team creates seating charts, manages the flow of food, and chooses the beverages.  The marketing team imagines the theme for the evening and oversees the website, while the finance team creates a budget and plans the silent auction. “Providing meaningful donations and an unforgettable experience for the guests is an achievement that both my fellow students and I are proud of,” said former marketing team leader Ori Friedman.

Over the last 8 years approximately $400,000 has been raised for local Hudson Valley charities.

Recent benefiting charities include Food Bank of Hudson Valley, Anderson Center for Autism, Fisher House Foundation, Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation, Duchess County SPCA, Wounded Warrior Project, and American Farmland Trust.

“These events are a win for everyone involved.  The students benefit by applying their new skills, and the community benefits by the support given to local charities. Guests have the opportunity to interact with the students while enjoying great entertainment, beverages, and food,” said Dr. Patrick Bottiglieri, CIA Professor of Business Management.

Come and dine with these culinary heroes as they support their community while perfecting their craft!
